MMO Dev Tycoon - Ludum Dare 36 (Theme: "Ancient Technology")
This is the most ambitious project I've taken on for a Ludum Dare. While I wasn't even close to finishing my initial concept, I'm proud of what I did get done and I think it at least shows what I was going for.
The idea is to create a game in the tycoon genre, like Roller Coaster Tycoon, where you manage an MMO world. This includes designing and building the world, managing business costs, and responding to player feedback. I was inspired by a developer who is currently a few years into developing exactly this kind of game. You can check out his dev blog at http://www.vectorstorm.org/2014/01/21/mmorpg-tycoon-2-roadmap/.
- WASD or Arrow keys to pan camera, mouse wheel to zoom in and out.
- Use the buttons on the left to add NPC quest givers and artifacts to the world.
- Players will automatically accept quests from NPCs to seek out the ancient artifacts.
I learned an incredible amount about what I can and can't easily do in Unity, and I'll take that knowledge to all my other projects.
